A JOURNEY BEGINS

It wasn't easy at first. After a lifetime of living in big cities, I was disconnected from nature and had no idea what real food was. I was accustomed to buying everything pre-packaged from a supermarket. I believed it was normal to be able to eat whatever fruit and vegetable I wanted at any time of the year.

My perspective changed once I moved to Southern Italy and discovered that I could only find local ingredients that were in season. It was a shocking revelation, but I quickly adapted.

I learned to enjoy grapes for only a few months and then patiently wait almost a year to enjoy them again. I celebrated the spring equinox by going to the market to select the first crop of wild asparagus and fava beans. I got excited about recipes that can only be prepared during each specific season. I learned to preserve summer fruits so that I could taste their sweetness in the winter. And I connected with the farmers that harvest my produce as they are the ones that also sell it at the market with their calloused hands and dirt-stained fingernails that represents hard work.

This experience changed the way I view food and nature. Living a seasonal lifestyle connected me more than ever to our earth and nature. My health also improved. My hair became shinier and longer and my skin was glowing. I looked younger, I felt rejuvenated and the best part was that I had more energy.

This transformation of my body and mind was all thanks to a simple lifestyle change, living more naturally by eating seasonal foods. I felt like I had discovered a big secret, the best diet in the world...that actually works!

As humans, we are meant to live this way, it’s how our ancestors lived and thrived. We were not designed to live a fast-food lifestyle that society makes us believe is normal, and that comes with so many irreversible side effects.

I fell in love with my new lifestyle and wanted to learn everything I could. I never went back to Canada or England, although that was my original plan and instead, I spent the next few years learning about the cycles of the seasons and the best time to harvest from local farmers. I learned ancient folklore remedies and recipes from the village wise women, and I began my journey into the study of herbalism so that I could understand the healing benefits of plants and herbs.
